Leonard Beil dies, see In Memoriam
Check the big class list and see if your address is on there and correct, if it isn't, you could miss out! Please also scan the list for names that don't have addresses shown and let us know if you have any contact information for them. While you're there, check for your friends' addresses and let us know of any changes. Send us your e-mail address for updates, so classmates can reach you.
40-year Reunion:
Dates: 20-22 August 2010
Place: Log Cabin Resort, East Beach RoadWow, what a party! We gathered on Friday evening informally, my guess is three dozen of us were there. A count on Sunday morning showed 97 classmates came (about two dozen more had registered but couldn't attend), and the total with spouses and friends was 156. Alan Osterberg even brought his mother, and she lived to tell.
We left the site relatively clean, the only evidence will be our memories, at least one hangover, and a whole lot of pictures. Pam Phillips and I (Van) took a lot of pictures, Chris Weitzel e-mailed a dozen the day after. If you have any good ones, please send them as soon as possible. (vanhorn@whidbey.com) Send full size JPGs, my e-mail account can handle anything you send me.
PHOTOS!!! Every image has an e-mail link below it so that you can send me missing names. A lof of people have sent names, but there are still a lot of blanks. If you can name someone, or correct a name that we got wrong, please use that link.
Your reunion committee is: Terrie Clawson Richmond, Jane Rhoads Childers, Jim Hulett, Pam Phillips, Sheila Ballard Martin, Pete Van Os, Karen Casilio Sargent, Priscilla Trudeau Schloss, and Cliff Fors, with computer support from Van (don't even think about calling him Greg) Van Horn.
If you have any updates for addresses, phone numbers, e-mails, or other contact information, please send them here, I'll update the site and forward the info to Jane.
Leonard Beil, vice principal when we were there, subsequently principal and port commissioner, died at home of natural causes on Friday, 21 October 2011. See the Daily News obituary. Our sympathy goes out to his son and daughter-in-law, our classmates Gary and Pam (Herring) Beil.
John Fendler past away on 23 March 2011 after battling bone cancer. See the Daily News obituary.
Karla Marie Collins, who we knew as Karla Hibbard, died of cardiac arrhythmia on 17 March 2011. She had been living at Carnation, Washington. A very basic obituary appears on the Peninsula Daily News site.
Quinn Redlin Kintner, daughter of Bill Kintner, died following sudden complications on Saturday, 24 July 2010. Services were held at Holy Trinity at 1:00 pm on Thursday, 12 August, which was a joyous celebration of her life attended by several of Bill's classmates. An inspiring obituary (written by Bill's wife Kelsey) is on the Peninsula Daily News site. The family has asked that condolences be sent to Quinn's e-mail. Snail mail: 317 W. 13th, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
Valerie Jean Maxfield, known to us as Valerie Heckman, passed away on 29 May 2010 at Astoria, Oregon. She lived at nearby Warrenton with her husband Robert, (PAHS 1971). Port Angeles Daily News obituary and Daily Astorian obituary appear to be the same text, the Daily Astorian includes a photo. Services at Astoria on Saturday, 5 June. The e-mail address listed in the class list appears to be shared with her husband.
I don't read the paper, so if you learn of the death of a classmate please drop me a note with as much information as possible.
We've had quite a few reunions, but I only took a camera starting in 2000. I've never been much good at names, so a lot of those shots don't have names attached to them. Even if you're as bad about names as I am, there's a good chance that the few you remember for sure aren't the same ones I can remember. So please look through the pictures and click the link to let me know any names you can, or if I've misspelled any of them.
Some of these shots are embarrassing to me because the pictures are no good, some will no doubt be embarrassing to those who were clowning around those nights. To the best of my recollection, dignity was never our strong suit. (Nor was it the strong suit of any other high school class I've ever heard of, so I don't feel too bad.)
In 2000 we gathered at the golf club on Friday night, and again on the waterfront on Saturday night. (Look, I was having a good time, not taking notes, okay? If you remember the name of the restaurant, send me a note.) Here are some of the embarrassing 2000 Reunion Photos.
In July of 2005 we gathered at the Log Cabin Resort on Lake Crescent. As far as I could tell, a great time was had by all. Here are the 2005 Reunion Photos I got from that, although I did forget to do anything with them for almost four years.
August of 2010 found us back at Log Cabin Resort, a good time was definitely had by all. More pictures than ever before, I was joined by Pam Phillips with her camera and Biff Weitzel added a few 2010 Reunion Photos.
Those of us who can be reached is a great list, a really long list: Class of 1970 Roster
Also note that some of our class are no longer living. Lest we forget, In Memoriam.
